Movenpick, Sheraton make their mark in Vietnam
HANOI – Luxury hotels continue to offer new choices in Vietnam.
Sheraton Hotels and Resorts has targeted May 2009 as the debut for its 281-room Sheraton Nha Trang Hotel & Spa – the first international upscale hotel brand to open on the beach in Vietnam.
“Nha Trang is exactly the place (to be),†said Scott Hodgetts, general manager of the Sheraton Nha Trang.
Sheraton’s first beach resort in Vietnam complements its existing properties in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City — the 299-room Sheraton Hanoi Hotel and the 483-room Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers.
The Nha Trang hotel’s eight categories of accommodation range from deluxe rooms to 62sqm executive suites and one 180sqm presidential suite.
Meanwhile, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has doubled its management portfolio in Vietnam with the December 1 christening of Mövenpick Hotel Hanoi, a 5-star boutique property located in the heart of downtown.
Knuth Kiefer, the property’s general, noted that his competition in Hanoi is substantial, but the new stock — led by the Sheraton and InterContinental Hanoi Westlake — is located some distance from the city centre.
“Our location is fantastic, wonderfully central,†Kiefer said. “We are fortunate that location is perceived to be such an issue of importance here in Hanoi — rightly so, as so much of the city’s signature tourist offerings and business community are centrally located.â€
The hotel will feature six guest rooms specifically designed for female business travellers. The rooms will feature a slightly different colour theme; an additional movable make-up mirror in the guest room, iron and ironing boards; additional bathroom amenities and small touches like scented potpourri.
“Those rooms are located on the third floor opposite the gym and wellness centre to offer easy access for women who would like to make use of the massage facilities without having to take an elevator,†said Kiefer.
