Myanmar quake death toll passes 2,000
The Myanmar government says the death toll has surpassed 2,000 with possibly hundreds still missing, while in Thailand it rose slightly to 19.
The quake was centered near Mandalay, which damaged the city’s airport and destroyed roads and bridges making rescue efforts especially challenging.
Teams from Russia, China, India and across Southeast Asia are in the country but not from the now disbanded USAID.
Golf specialist operator Golfasian says all of its guests and staff in Thailand are safe and accounted for and disruptions have been minimal.
The operator said the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar was felt in areas such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
However, Thailand’s coastal and beach destinations were not impacted, while flight operations at airports are normal.
“We are pleased to confirm that all Golfasian guests and staff are safe. Our team continues to monitor the situation closely in coordination with local authorities,” it said in an update.
