NAACP issues Florida tourism advisory
Civil rights organization the NAACP to issue a travel advisory for ‘openly hostile’ Florida.
It follows recent warnings by the League of United Latin American Citizens and LGBTQ group Equality Florida.
The NCAAP cities Gov. Ron DeSantis’ ‘aggressive attempts to erase Black history and to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion in Florida schools.’
NAACP CEO Derrick Johnson said. “He should know that democracy will prevail because its defenders are prepared to stand up and fight.”
“He’s using his platform as governor to try to promote racial hate and division,” Johnson added.
It comes as Florida tourism is thriving.
DeSantis imposed the controversial ‘don’t say gay’ bill and has banned a high school African American studies course.
DeSantis’ press secretary called it ‘nothing more than a stunt.’
A $100 billion industry, Florida tourism welcomed 137 million people in 2022, according to Visit Florida.
