Nairobi airports on security alert
Increased security at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is behind advice to departing passengers that they should allow four hours for check-in.
Kenyan authorities have enhanced security in and around the country’s main airports to help prevent terror attacks at the country’s key entry points.
The heightened security follows a January 16 bomb blast at a popular restaurant at JKIA which caused minor damage.
Four men, including a man identified as a Somali diplomat, have been charged in a Kenyan court with terrorism offences in relation to the incident.
Kenya Airways has advised customers departing from JKIA to be at the airport at least an hour before normal check-in times as police heighten security checks.
Nairobi airport is a popular transit point for travellers heading to safari destinations across Africa.
