NASCAR revving up Charlotte
Fresh from attracting the $154.4 million NASCAR Hall of Fame, the Charlotte area is embarking on new tourism marketing campaigns that include attracting more conventions.
The museum will be adjacent to the convention center, making it a focal point that Charlotte has lagged for a long time.
The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority (CRVA) will be spending $6.2 million to recruit conventions and promote leisure travel.
The slogan “Home of the NASCAR Hall of Fame” will appear on billboards and other venues including Web sites, direct mail offerings and magazine ads.
Tourism officials hope that Charlotte will become synonymous with NASCAR, just as Nashville is with country music and Pasadena is associated with the Rose Bowl.
