Naturist operator Peng Travel closes
Naturist operator Peng Travel has stopped operating ahead of owner Travelzest selling or "winding down" its UK operations.
The travel group said it had "made the decision to sell or wind down all the remaining UK operations" which it expects to be complete by "the end of the first fiscal quarter of 2013" at its results on Friday.
The company may still run British websites, holiday.co.uk and flight.co.uk but it is divesting all its UK brands.
Although it said Peng Travel stopped operating in 2012, the brand will still be sold.
Travelzest set up an independent board in May 2012 to seek a buyer for the whole company and it has supported a management buyout of its Canadian business.
At its results, the company said that the sale of the Canadian business would allow Travelzest to repay bank debt and return funds to investors.
"For prudence, the board is also reviewing alternative financing options in the event the sale does not proceed," Travelzest admitted.
Peng Travel was founded by naturist Peter Englert in 1971 who sold it to Canadian operator Travelzest six years ago when it was building up a portfolio of niche travel companies in the UK.
Fellow naturist holiday firm, Chalfont Holidays, said on its website:
"We were very sorry to hear of the demise of Peng Travel. Unfortunately in these difficult financial circumstances Travelzest have decided to concentrate on their Canadian operations, and are in the process of withdrawing from their UK operations.
"We understand that although they have "ceased to trade", all existing suppliers have been paid and all future customers have their payments refunded."
