NCL orders two more ships
Norwegian Cruise Line has pledged to spend $1 billion on two ships purpose built for its “Freestyle Cruising” product, to be delivered in 2007.
The Miami-based company, which has nine ships in service and a further five for delivery in the next two and a half years, says it had found success with the ‘Freestyle’ product. Aimed at creating a more informal experience, Freestyle Cruising allows guests to wear casual attire and choose from up to ten restaurants to eat when they want.
The latest announcement will see one ship delivered in February 2007 and the second in May 2007. The former is being built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany and the latter at the Finland yard of Aker Finnyards. Both ships will have 2,400 berths.
NCL has two ships launching this year – Norwegian Jewel in June and Pride of America in August. Next Spring Pride of Hawaii will be delivered to NCL America.
