New all-business transatlantic carrier ready for take-off
New all-business class airline startup La Compagnie will finally take to the skies next month with up to five weekly flights between Newark International and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.
It will fly an adapted Boeing 757-200 in a single aisle configuration with 74 flat-bed seats.
Another Boeing jet is expected for delivery by the end of the year.
Fares will start at around $1,600 up to $4,600 for a seat with enhanced premium services.
The carrier said it will offer best in class in-flight amenities including free in-flight wi-fi, with complimentary use of Samsung tablets, in-flight amenity kits, and menus designed by French Michelin-starred chef Christophe Langree.
Founder Peter Luethi said there is space in the market for a new carrier able to offer value for business travelers.
"Those who fly business class look for service at a reasonable, affordable price, especially after a long period of consolidation in the aviation industry and the skyrocketing airfares that are offered," said Luethi.
La Compagnie is not the first attempt for a new all-business airline brand to break into the lucrative transatlantic market.
Previous recent efforts include Silverjet and Eos Airlines, both of which lasted only a few years in operation.
Both attributed their respective failures on the recession.
