New Avis website ‘speeds booking process’

Avis claims car rental bookings can be completed within a minute on its new website.

The car hire firm says this is the fastest in the industry although it is based on a booking by a customer who has previously created and account, using pre-stored payment details.

The new website at wwww.avis.co.uk incorporates “retail design and functionality” which are claimed to be a first for the rental industry, reflecting the familiarity of format that those who book and buy online expect, according to Avis.

Avis Europe customer contact systems development director John Phipps, previously head of web development at John Lewis Direct, has overseen the development of the website.

The language and tone of the site have been simplified with information presented clearly using latest web building technology.

Customers can register online, creating an account to securely store personal and payment details, saving time when completing a booking.

“A rental can now be completed within 60 seconds, fastest in the industry,” Avis said.

A multiple booking function enables users to add rentals to a ‘shopping basket’ and complete bookings further in advance, often giving access to the best prices. Users can search by town, postcode or flight number to find the correct rental location.

A new insurance guide is also available to view telling customers exactly what they are covered for before completing the rental.

Phipps said: “I felt Avis could benefit from using traditional principles of online retailing applied to car rental. Due to the popularity of shopping for goods online, customers are familiar with a certain layout and I felt they would benefit from following a similar format when hiring their car.”
