New Benchmark Tourism Book
The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) officially launched a new benchmark book ‘Tourism in Turbulent Times: Towards Safe Experiences for Visitors’ at the World Travel Market in London last Tuesday. A wide cross section of the tourism industry was present for the launch, which was part of the PATA annual Strategic Intelligence Briefing.
Tourism in Turbulent Times presents an international review of the challenges faced by the world’s largest industry to provide safe and enjoyable experiences for visitors. Edited by three Australians, the book draws on the background and expertise of contributors from 11 countries, representing scholars, government officers and industry practitioners. Shocks such as the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, SARS and the more recent Asian Tsunami have made the tourism industry very conscious of the need to protect its customers. This book highlights the positive responses made by the industry at destination, national and international levels.
