New Carbon Web Service for Tour Operators & Online Providers
The Carbon Consultancy has today launched a new web service for emissions reporting, designed to support greater consumer education and corporate engagement with emissions in the leisure travel sector.
The new service is based upon both DEFRA and independently researched emissions data, providing tour operators, online travel providers and travel agents with a mechanic to report emissions with speed and simplicity. By importing carbon calculations, travel providers can deliver carbon information as a standard feature of web or itinerary based travel information.
The webservice is fully IATA coded to enable easy integration with user’s systems and provides sector, class, airline and aircraft emissions reporting as required. It was designed to enable ease of use by companies and is supported by a comprehensive airport database. For short haul journeys, rail and car emissions comparisons are provided to users.
CEO, Hugo Kimber commented “The leisure sector can play an important role in client carbon education, but this needs to be supported by tools that are easy to use and integrate.”
He added “Aviation emissions receive a great deal of media attention, but many consumers have no idea of the carbon impact of their flights unless they voluntarily use an internet calculator. They are also unable to place their travel emissions in the context of their overall footprint and their concerns about their environmental impact are not matched by information delivery.”
The Carbon Consultancy service is designed to enable travel companies to match other sectors that are moving swiftly down the route of visible carbon values for products. The service is supported by information on lower carbon travel, and how to save emissions at home before you fly and during your holiday.
The reporting output has been available to tour operators who are already using the Carbon Responsible platform as part of their wider carbon programmes. The calculators on www.carbonresponsible.com are powered by the new webservice.
