New cruise terminal for Southampton

Wednesday, 07 May, 2009 0

The first purpose-built new cruise terminal for 40 years is to open in Southampton on Saturday (May 9).

The £19 million new terminal has been built at Ocean Dock opposite the site of the old Ocean Terminal.

Carnival UK cruise brands Cunard Line, Ocean Village, P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises will have priority use of the new facility after signing a 20-year contract with Associated British Ports, in addition to the existing QEII and Mayflower terminals.

The terminal has been designed to enable the embarkation of 4,000 passengers a day.

Facilities include 40 state of the art check-in desks, more than 300 short stay car parking spaces, eight acres of long stay car parking, 30 coach bays and a dedicated taxi rank and drop off area for passengers.

Port owner ABP will open the doors of the new terminal to its first passengers when P&O Cruises’ Oceana makes a call on Saturday.
