New eco-luxury brand debuts in Miami
Starwood Capital Group has officially unveiled 1 Hotels, a new eco-friendly lifestyle brand aimed at ‘changing industry standards.’
Hotels will feature no paper or plastic in guest rooms, and freshly sourced food will be offered at lobby farmstands presented in person by local farmers.
The first property, the 426-room 1 Hotel & Homes South Beach has opened in Miami, and will be joined by 1 Hotel Central Park in spring and 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge Park in late 2015.
“It’s simple. We have an impact on nature and nature has an impact on us. I decided that if I was ever going to create another hotel, I wanted it to be more than a brand; I wanted it to be a cause. People are already living like this and are now looking for ways to travel in the same fashion,” said Barry Sternlicht, Chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group.
“At first, our guests may simply notice the graceful twist of driftwood in the furnishings. However, what we are really offering is an evolution of the entire hotel experience, one that is more natural in regards to the way we arrive, sleep, eat, relax and do.”
All guest rooms are furnished with low impact natural or reclaimed materials where possible, and will have custom made hemp-blend Keetsa mattresses.
Complimentary parking is also offered for guests who drive electric vehicles.
Local non-profit organizations will also regularly team up with each 1 Hotel property for guest volunteering opportunities in the local neighborhood, such as tree planting or beach cleanups.
