New FCO warnings for Africa
UK: Foreign Office updates advice to reflect new terror threat
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued a new advice for several countries in Africa, warning that the terrorist threat has increased since the start of the war on Iraq.
The Government office is warning that the danger of terrorism has increased in Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia – especially in Kenya, where tourists are being told to be especially careful and to be “extremely vigilant” in public places.
The advice for Sudan was the latest to be updated; the Foreign Office website at www.fco.gov.uk/travel warns: “We believe Sudan is one of a number of countries where there is an increased threat to visibly British institutions and organisations from global terrorism.
“You are advised to keep a low profile over the coming days. There have been some small-scale demonstrations mainly directed at the US Embassy. There are likely to be further demonstrations and there could be random acts of violence.”
