New flights transforming Toronto into international hub
Anyone who doubts that Toronto wants to be an international air hub can look to the announcement Air Canada plans to launch service to seven new US Destinations next spring.
The airline will begin flying to Orange County, Calif., on April 6 and San Diego on June 17. Air Canada will use Airbus A319s on both routes.
Also on June 17, Air Canada will launch Embraer 190 service to Portland, Ore. Air Canada Jazz will also start operating twice-daily service to Memphis and Cincinnati on Canadair regional jets.
Air Canada will offer twice-daily service to Portland, Maine, and Syracuse, N.Y. in April.
Ben Smith, Air Canada’s chief commercial officer, said the new flights "demonstrate our commitment to drive Toronto’s growth as a hub."
"Our strategy is to leverage our hub to make it a global transfer point for domestic, trans-border and international travelers," he said.
