New LCC FlyArystan takes off
The world’s newest low-cost airline has taken flight.
FlyArystan is the low cost unit of Kazakhstan flag carrier Air Astana, and operated its maiden flight out of Almaty International Airport.
FlyArystan will initially fly six domestic routes, with journey times ranging from one to three hours to Taraz, Shymkent, Pavlodar, Uralsk, Nur-Sultan (formerly Astana) and Karaganda.
It operates two Airbus A320 aircraft transferred from Air Astana and has a 160-strong workforce based at Almaty.
Two more A320s will be added to the fleet in the fourth quarter of the year when the airline should be operating at least 12 routes.
The planes have been newly retrofitted with 180 new Recaro slimline seats with a pitch of 29 inches.
"A number of destinations handed over to us by Air Astana will suit a different, more price-conscious demographic. Accordingly, we aim to introduce some purchase options giving flexibility for business flyers," said Tim Jordan, Head of FlyArystan.
It operates as a conventional low cost carrier with low base fares and fees for onboard refreshments and baggage, although hand luggage up to 5kg is free.
Bag fees will be priced depending on the route.
"What we are doing with this new airline is delivering something new and different for the people of Kazakhstan," Jordan added.
