New startup Breeze Airways raises USD83 million for 2021 launch
New US aviation startup Breeze Airways has bagged $83 million in funding and says it is on track to launch in mid-2021.
The investment by Peterson Partners and Sandlot Partners takes total funding to more than $100 million.
The Salt Lake City based low cost startup plans to serve secondary mid-sized cities with point to point flights.
It hasn’t announced which cities but said it will start flying routes on the East Coast.
Breeze has ordered 60 new Airbus 220-300 aircraft which are expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2021.
It will initially use leased Embraer 190 and 195 aircraft if it gets off the ground before then.
Breeze Airways is the fifth airline startup founded by David Neeleman, which include JetBlue, Westjet and Brazil based Azul.
"It’s hard to believe it was two decades ago that we launched JetBlue. I’m personally so excited now to introduce Breeze, especially with the support of great financial partners, like Peterson Partners, Sandlot, and all of our investors," Neeleman said.
"We believe that Breeze can make travel simple, affordable and convenient for millions of customers."
