New startup Jiangxi Airlines gets green light to start flying
Another new domestic airline in China is about to take off.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has given final approval for the launch of Jiangxi Airlines, a new joint venture between established carrier Xiamen Airlines and the Jiangxi provincial government.
The new airline plans to operate flights using five Boeing 737 aircraft on domestic routes from Nanchang to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu.
The airline said it will add three more planes by next year, and hopes to expand to a fleet of 20 by 2020.
Jiangxi Airlines’ ambitious business plan includes expansion to international destinations such as Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan and Korea, and long-haul routes to Europe, the US and Australia.
To get the carrier off the ground, CNY 2 billion ($325 million) was invested with Xiamen Airlines holding a 60% stake in the new venture, while Jiangxi Aviation Investment Co., for the Jiangxi provincial government, holds the remaining 40%.
