New website to update on forest fire damage
La Gomera tourism has launched a website to update tour operators on the damage caused by forest fires.
The Canary Islands’ government states the island saw 15% of its ecological area destroyed in the recent fires but claims the island remains a safe tourism destination.
It says 85% of the area is still intact and most walkways are open, particulary Garajonay National Park, a World Heritage site.
Thousands of people were evacuated as wildfires hit the Canary Islands and parts of mainland Spain in August, see previous story.
Operators can get practical, up-to-date information from the La Gomera website complete with ‘frequently asked questions’. Click here for more information.
