New York promotes Neighbourhood Watch
New York wants Australians to get out and about in the city…to explore the boroughs such as the Bronx, where the "real Little Italy" exists on Arthur Avenue; Brooklyn and Queens, where Long Island City is now home to one of New York’s most exciting art scenes.
"Of course we still want visitors to explore the icons of New York, and watch the annual parades and festivals, but there so much happening in the neighbourhoods it would be a shame to miss the action there," said Makiko Healy, vice president, tourism development, NYC and Company.
New York City is targeting USD70 billion in economic impact and 55 million annual visitors by 2015.
Hotel development in the city has boomed with the current number of hotel rooms, 92,000, set to grow to 1000,000 by the end of 2014.
NYC and Company is part of a record delegation taking part in the Visit USA travel trade promotion, which visited four key Australian cities, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne (February 20).
