A large police manhunt is underway in the Philippines after a New Zealand tourist was shot dead in a street robbery.

Nicholas Stacey was killed by a single shot as he struggled with one of two attackers.

The suspects on a motorbike approached Stacey and his girlfriend in Manila’s Makati district.

Police ‘will leave no stones unturned’ said Major General Estomo.

While he called it an ‘isolated incident’ it could potentially damage the country’s reputation for tourist safety.

Police patrols in the capital will be beefed up.

“We know that this incident could spark fear among tourists.”

Stacey’s girlfriend confirmed he was shot while grappling with one of the robbers who was pointing a gun.
