Night, night pillows
Will flyers be losing any sleep over American Airlines’ decision to remove pillows from its MD-80 jets?
Pillows have become a cost-cutting casualty at American, which has removed them from its fleet of 334 MD-80s, planes generally used for shorter routes.
“It will streamline our cabin service,” airline spokesman Tim Wagner told the Associated Press.
Mr Wagner estimated the airline would save “in the mid-six figures.”
The pillows will be relocated to other planes, which for the time will keep their pillows, according to Mr Wagner.
MD-80 passengers will be able to use the adjustable headrest in place of their pillows.
The move raises the question of how often pillowcases are changed between flights?
Internationally, there’s service after every flight, airline officials say. Pillowcases are not changed after every national flight, but they are tucked awy after the last flight of the day.
