Night-time flight path to Heathrow could be redirected
The Government is considering re-directing the night time flight path to Heathrow to reduce noise for London residents.
The Department of Transport has proposed that pilots approach over the less heavily populated area of Windsor for flights which land between 4am and 6am.
At the moments the majority of night flights, around 72%, approach over built up areas of West London, while the other 28% approach over Windsor, reports the Sunday Times.
There is huge opposition to night flights at Heathrow because currently the paths pass over areas of high housing density with 245,000 people affected by the noise.
The DfT modelling, which takes into account wind patterns, suggests the change would result in 60% of incoming night flights passing over Windsor.
