No-frills success for Monarch

The year has got off to a good start for Monarch Scheduled, with passenger numbers up more than a third in January.

The low cost airline sold 135,393 seats in January, up 37% year-on-year.

It also increased capacity 16% in January year-on-year, and intends to continue expanding its route network this year.

Flights from Manchester to Almeria, Madrid and Naples, and from Gatwick to Lisbon and Granada which launch on April 28 and May 19 respectively. And on April 28 Monarch Scheduled opens a new base in Birmingham, with flights to Faro, Alicante, Malaga and Tenerife.

The carrier also operates flights from its original base in Luton.
