No-Hassle Flying Act signed by Obama

Sunday, 21 Dec, 2012 0

President Obama has signed The No-Hassle Flying Act, a new law that allows the Transportation Security Administration the authority to allow luggage from select pre-cleared foreign airports to move through US airports without a second bag check on connecting flights.

The law had already been approved earlier this month by both the Senate and the House with voice votes.

The pre-cleared facilities at foreign airports include nine in Canada, two in Ireland (Dublin and Shannon), and four in the Caribbean (Bahamas, Bermuda and Aruba).

Nina Meyer, ASTA’s president and interim CEO said upon the passage of the bill through the House that: "Travel agents sell the majority of airline tickets in the U.S. and thus have a vested interest in this legislation’s goal of maximizing the efficiency of baggage screening procedures. The No-Hassle Flying Act presents a common-sense solution for reducing pressure on the Transportation Security Administration at a time when the country’s fiscal situation calls for the elimination of any and all wasteful government spending."
