Norfolk Island is having a ball

Thursday, 01 May, 2007 0

They may not be dancing in the streets on Norfolk Island in June but the 11th Annual Week of Social Ballroom dancing certainly has locals and visitors alike on their toes, with the Week of June 18 to 23 seeing a range of dance workshops culminating in a special red carpet Gala Dinner dance to celebrate the week’s events. The semi formal ball sees dancers getting glammed up and ‘tripping the light fantastic’ with their new moves.

Visitors are hosted by the Norfolk Island Ballroom Dancers and are in the hands of the very experienced Jan Lawrence and Tanya Kershaw who are teaching both Ballroom and Latin routines.

Other activities during the week include a carnival themed dance – where there are spot prizes for being the best dressed and a progressive dinner where visitors feast on local Norfolk Island cuisine.

The Travel Centre on Norfolk has special Social Ballroom Dancing holiday packages from $1,044 per person ex Auckland/Wellington/Christchurch.

The packages include return flights, seven nights twin share accommodation, car hire, airfare and departure taxes, airport transfers, a meet and greet service and entry to a privately owned  lush rainforest.

Please note the package prices are valid for bookings made direct through The Travel Centre.

About Norfolk Island:  Discovered by Captain Cook in 1774, Norfolk Island was first settled as a British penal colony in 1788 through to 1856. On June 8, 1856, the island was re-inhabited by a community from Pitcairn Island, descendants of the Bounty mutineers and their Tahitian companions.   Known today as Norfolk Islanders, they form a majority of the 1,800 resident population. Norfolk Island is renowned for its spectacular coastal scenery, colourful history, sporting and cultural activities, convict heritage and tax-free shopping.

Air New Zealand flies to Norfolk Island on Sundays and Thursdays.  For bookings and more information freephone 0800 737 000 or visit www.airnewzealand.co.nz
