Northern Iceland gains Stansted flight
Iceland’s second city of Akureyri is to gain its first air link from Stansted.
Twice weekly flights, operated by Iceland Express on Thursdays and Sundays, will run for a month only, from September 29 to October 29 with 10.45 departures from Stansted.
The move came as the airline started offering one-way fares of £76 from Stansted to Reykjavik for travel this month via its website www.icelandexpress.com. The rate compares with standard prices of up to £159.
Paul Argyle, whose company Flight Directors represents the low cost carrier in the UK, said the Akureyri link was a “toe in the water” to gauge interest from the UK, underpinned by demand from Icelanders to get away before the winter sets in.
