Northern Rivers new rex services through council work
Northern Rivers Tourism has applauded the role of councils as Australia’s largest independent regional airline, Regional Express (Rex) commences services linking Grafton and Taree with Sydney on Monday, February 26.
The Chairman of Northern Rivers Tourism, Mr Gerd Beurich, praised the efforts of both the Clarence Valley Council and Greater Taree City Council who have co-invested in a partnership arrangement with Rex to secure the service, adding, “This new air service will make the southern part of the Northern Rivers region more accessible to Sydneysiders looking for short breaks…..that’s great news for local tourism operators”.
He added, “It will also open up more opportunities for business travel and visiting friends and relatives”.
Rex will provide a return service to Sydney three times a day weekdays and twice daily on weekends on a combined route to both Grafton and Taree from Sydney.
Mr Beurich said former NRT Board member, George Cowan, Executive Manager, Economic Development for Clarence Valley Council, was hosting an introduction to the new airline during an open morning at the Clarence Valley Airport on Friday, 16 February at 10.45 am.
When the service was announced in December Rex Chief Executive Geoff Breust said: “We are confident that Rex will be able to grow these two routes to strong profitability as we have done so elsewhere on our network … I am sure the community will rally with that support.”
Fully inclusive fares will start from $129 for Grafton. Bookings may be made via the travel agency network, via Rex’s Customer Contact Centre on 13 17 13 or online at www.rex.com.au.
