Norwegian Star Panama canal cruise canceled
Norwegian Cruise Line has announced the cancelation of the Norwegian Star’s upcoming Panama Canal cruise due to a propulsion problem.
The cruise line said the April 12 sailing has been scrapped because of failure of the ship’s ABB Azipod system.
Guests booked on this Sunday’s cruise will be eligible for a full refund as well as a 50% credit for a future cruise.
Norwegian will also pay for any airline and hotel reservation change fees.
The Norwegian Star was scheduled for a 15 night cruise from Los Angeles to Miami along the Panama Canal with calls in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Huatulco, Puerto Chiapas, Puntarenas, Panama Canal, Cartagena and Ocho Rios.
The ship which enetered service in 2001, remains out of service until April 26, 2015 for repairs to the Azipod systems.
"Norwegian Cruise Line sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this itinerary change and would like to thank our guests for their understanding," Norwegian said in its statement.
The next planned sailing will depart Miami on April 27.
The Norwegian Star came out of dry dock only last month following technical upgrades which included work on the Azipod system.
