NSW State Government to axe 5000 jobs

The NSW government today announced 5,000 positions will go from the public service, bureaucrats will lose protection from involuntary redundancies, and several departments will be merged.

A group of new super departments will be formed, consolidationg several departments into one.

The Department of State Development and Regional Development will be expanded to include the Ministry for Science and Medical Research and the Tourism Ministry.

The state Development Department will receive a $13 million budget boost to drive investment and job creation.
