New York City (August 14, 2013) — NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, welcomes back the Summer 2013 NY NOWthe Market for Home & Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®), to New York City, a wholesale industry event with more than 2,800 exhibitors from around the world and 35,000 attendees from more than 80 countries and all 50 states. The semiannual market, which is the City’s largest trade show, is expected to generate an estimated 27,000 hotel room nights for the City. NY NOW begins this Saturday, August 17, and runs through Wednesday, August 21, filling New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal’s Pier 94.

"New York City’s convention and trade show business has helped us achieve record levels of tourism year after year," said George Fertitta, NYC & Company’s CEO. "The support of a show like the newly renamed NY NOW™, which brings in 35,000 attendees biannually is crucial to the tourism industry and the City’s continued economic health."

Along with a new name, NY NOW’s 2,800-plus exhibitors now will be divided into four market categories. NY NOW HOME will showcase 1,200 suppliers of Home Furnishings + Textiles, Tabletop + Gourmet Housewares, plus the juried Accent on Design® and its cross-category collection of contemporary design resources. NY NOW LIFESTYLE will feature 1,100 suppliers of Gift + Stationery, Baby + Child, Personal Accessories and Personal Care + Wellness. Representing all home and lifestyle categories and crafted in all types of media, NY NOW HANDMADE offers nearly 500 artisans. The NY NOW NEW! collection will highlight some 250 newcomers into the New York market in a cross-category collection of home and lifestyle products.

NY NOW is the premier market for home, lifestyle and craft merchandise, with more than 100,000 products in 400-plus categories. The semiannual trade-only event offers retailers the ability to place orders for the crucial 4Q holiday selling season. The Summer 2013 edition of NY NOW boasts 400-plus first-time exhibitors to the show and distinguishes itself from other markets with its focus on variety, innovation and its common thread, design. In addition, 40-plus educational seminars will be offered as well as special "only in NYC" events.

"NY NOW is comprised of thousands of small businesses—retailers, artists and manufacturers alike. We’re delighted that our market participants generate economic benefits for so many of New York City and States’s small businesses. It’s a great partnership between our market, the City, the State, and the metro region," said Christian Falkenberg, NY NOW director and GLM vice president.

This year welcomes back the "Open House" exhibit, a partnership with One Kings Lane and Progressive Business Media, which features 100-plus home and lifestyle products that best represent the four key design trends of 2013-2014: Monochromatic; Neo-Traditional; Vintage… with a Twist; and Well-Cultured. Select products from participants will be sold online at One Kings Lane (onekingslane.com) for three days (August 17-21) during NY NOW, with proceeds benefitting Gift For Life, the gift and home industries’ sole charity partner.

New resources and trends in sustainable home and lifestyle products, production and business practices will be featured through the SustainAbility: design for a better world® initiative. Now in its sixth year, this industry-leading activity includes a juried product display, eco-friendly product design awards, and educational sessions addressing sustainable and socially responsible business practices.

Capitalizing on growing consumer interest in American-made products, an educational session titled "Cash-In on the Cachet of ‘Made in the U.S.A.’" will feature a panel of American-made sourcing and selling specialists who will explore product authentication and certification, as well as marketing and brand positioning. For the first time, a special display will showcase some 200-plus American-made (handmade and commercially produced) home and lifestyle products.
