NYC, Toronto join forces to boost tourism flows
New York City and Toronto are teaming up to tout each other’s tourism hotspots and activities.
NYC & Company and Tourism Toronto signed a two-year tourism partnership which will see each contribute $500,000 in assets to promote the other destination.
It is NYC’s first tourism alliance of its kind with a Canadian destination.
"New York City and Toronto share so much in common and both cities wholeheartedly embrace their diversity and multicultural dynamism, positioning both destinations as attractive and welcoming hubs for global travel," said NYC & Company CEO Fred Dixon.
To kick off the new partnership, Air Canada has come onboard with specially discount airfares for one-way flights between New York and Toronto when booked by October 23.
"This is Toronto’s first city-to-city partnership and New York City makes the ideal partner. Toronto and New York City are the financial, entertainment and cultural centers of our two nations and this partnership goes a long way to share our big-city experiences with each other’s residents and visitors," said Tourism Toronto CEO Johanne Belanger.
This year New York City is targeting nearly one million Canadian visitors while Toronto welcomed 2.8 million Americans last year including more than 600,000 from New York State.
