NZ travel agents recover more than NZD350 million in refunds for clients
New Zealand’s Consumer Travel Reimbursement Scheme has so far managed to recover more than $350 million for Kiwis unable to take trips. The scheme was launched in October to empower travel agents to get money back from airlines and tour operators for cancelled holidays.
It pays New Zealand travel agents 7.5% of the value of all cash refunds they are able to recover for their clients. When it was launched, the government estimated there was about $690 million owed to consumers for cancelled trips.
