OAG report reveals the UK’s most punctual airline

Monarch Airlines was the UK’s most punctual airline for 2015, according to the latest report from OAG.

The leisure airline, which operates from six UK airports, was rated top among UK airlines and 14th among the world’s top airlines with an average on time performance of 88.18%.

Flybe was the next best UK performer, at 17 on the overall list with an average on time performance of 87/47%.

Jet2.com was 25th in the overall list (85.62%), while easyJet came in at 50th (80.12%).

British Airways came in at 70th with an average on time performance of 76.34%.

However, Ryanair could have topped the UK chart had it provided more of its schedules for the report.

OAG ranks airlines for which it has 80% or more of their schedules, but Ryanair provided OAG with just less than 80% so it could not be included.

Based on the schedules it provided, its overage on time performance was 88.7%, which would have put it 11th on the top airlines list and made it the most punctual in the UK.

The most punctual airline overall was Latvian airline airBaltic, with an average punctuality of 94.39%, followed by Panama’s Copa Airlines (91.69%) and Brazil’s low-cost carrier (LCC) Azul (91.03%).

Meanwhile, the UK’s main airports performed very poorly in the league tables.

Only Bristol made it into any of the tables, named as the ninth most punctual small airport and the sixth most punctual airport in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Out of nearly 200 airports worldwide, Gatwick was ranked 192nd, Stansted was 190th, Luton 189th and Manchester 188th.

Glasgow, Edinburgh and Heathrow also performed badly, coming in the bottom fifth of the table.

"Capacity constraints continue to hold the UK back," said the report.

"Despite being the world’s fifth largest airport by seats in 2015, London Heathrow’s (LHR) capacity issues continue to impede on-time performance, meaning it does not make it into our league. Neither do any of the other large UK airports. We can only hope that 2016 will bring progress on the outstanding decisions on new runways."

Japan’s airports performed well, with Oaska achieving an average on time performace of 93.85%, leading the small airports, and Tokyo top of the large airports table with 91.25%.
