Off-duty police officer shoots man outside Las Vegas hotel
An off-duty Las Vegas police detective shot on a man outside the popular Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas last night, said newspaper reports.
It is the second shooting in eight months at the castle-shaped hotel, which describes itself as Las Vegas’ ‘most fun value vacation destination’.
In December last year, a man shot a woman dead at the Excalibur before killing himself. The woman was a vendor at Excalibur’s concierge desk.
According to the Las Vegas police, the latest shooting occurred outside the hotel. It said a detective and his wife were unloading packages from their car when a 25-year-old man got into their vehicle at around 21:00 hours.
The detective instructed the man to get out of the car and when the man ignored him the detective identified himself as a police officer and once again commanded the man to get out, said the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
When the man reached under a seat, the detective fired a single shot, hitting the man in the wrist, said police. The man ran to the front of the hotel where he was arrested by security staff and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, added police.
The detective has been placed on leave pending an internal investigation.
