Old Delhi bans cycle rickshaws
DELHI – There has been a new rule introduced in the Old Delhi area where the symbolic cycle rickshaws have been banned from the main Chandni Chowk area, which includes the Red Fort.
Residents and even shopkeepers – initially unhappy with the idea – are now satisfied with the government’s latest act of decongesting Chandni Chowk.
One shop owner said it had taken him five minutes to cover a section of road that previously took him 30 minutes.
Replacing the cycle rickshaws is an environmentally friendly bus service charging a flat fee of Rs5. There is also a Ladies Only special bus service.
Rajeev Kohli, director of marketing for Creative Travel India said, “This was the area where we offered our clients a cycle rickshaw ride through the hustling bustling streets of Old Delhi. We are investigating alternate route options, but at this time the rickshaw rides will be discontinued.”
In other news from India, Karnataka is set to launch south India’s first luxury tourist train.

The launch of the luxury train – likely to be named the “Golden Chariot – is scheduled for November 1. It will include a spa and gymnasium, restaurant coaches, TV lounges, conference coach and Internet connectivity.
