Oman to benefit from QF-EK alliance
Oman is looking forward to a tourism spin-off from the Emirates-Qantas alliance, which was approved this week by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
Confirmation of the alliance means that Qantas and Emirates customers have increased access to a large number of existing frequencies and destinations – including daily flights to Muscat via Dubai – under a single airline code.
Oman Tourism country manager Mona Tannous said the alliance opened a "gate-way to the Middle East", allowing Oman to share "the essence of true Arabia" with travellers from Australia and New Zealand.
The alliance, involving wide-ranging coordination of the carrier’s passenger and cargo operations, launches Sunday, March 31, starting with a symbolic A380 flyover of Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge by Emirates and Qantas aircraft.
Both Qantas CEO Alan Joyce and Emirates president Tim Clark will watch the flypast from the Opera House at 10.30am on March 31.
