One dream becomes a world of dreams at the Gold Coast’s Dreamworld

Thursday, 18 Dec, 2007 0

OK, so Gen Y’ers are generally not good in the morning, but today last night’s dreams in Vibe’s very comfortable king size bed [pictured right, with a single] were today going to change into a world of dreams at Dreamworld, so getting up was not at all difficult!

Brekkie first though and a quick shower a look at the view, a cuppa and down for a Vibe breakfast, wondering how they will get the Vibe into breakfast and what will be different?

Sadly although Vibe builds up the Vibe theme with the colours in the lobby and the branding, there was nothing startling about the breakfast, in fact it was pretty average with no really new Vibe about it all.

[Pictured below the Vibe Gold Coast]

We would have thought that for us Gen Y’ers they would have had smoothies, really fresh fruit juice, some interesting fruits and cereals and also not just the ubiquitous bacon and eggs.

Well, the brekkie was just like you would get at any hotel and in fact not as good as many, with the hot food cold and the food very slow getting topped up.

It is a pity when Vibe’s marketing and PR guys do such a great job, but the product in this case, the breakfast, appears to fail to deliver.

It was at breakfast that we also saw our fellow guests and we were surprised to see that they were predominantly Asian and that is cool, but interestingly they appeared to be mostly from overseas, but perhaps they are not as demanding as Aus Gen Y’ers or easy to please!

We chatted with a few guests around breakfast and they were not impressed either, so perhaps it is time to give it a good hard look!

Sorry guys, The Mole’s policy is to tell it the way it is and we believe that is what we have to do – we are not trashing you, but suggesting that if you are to succeed you need to change a few things starting with the welcome [see yesterday’s TravelMole Gen Y report] and the breakfast – it sucked! – oh and also extending the themeing much more into the rooms!

Hey let’s see how it goes, it is still a pretty cool hotel!

In any case, Dreamworld was beckoning and as it is only down the road, it was into the excellent Red Spot Tida, pedal to the metal and down to Dreamworld, said to be Australia’s most popular theme park, located at the northern end of the Gold Coast, on the Pacific Hwy, aka the M1 towards Brisbane at Coomera, 17kms and 20mins north of Surfers Paradise and 48kms or 40mins south of Brisbane.

Dreamworld is also right next door to Gold Coast’s newest theme water park, WhiteWater World, where we are going tomorrow!

Dreamworld also say that there are many transport options to get there, including bus, coach, rail, car and helicopter transfers…., now that is the way for Gen Y’ers!

In any case Dreamworld Gold Coast, Australia is home to Tiger Island, Nick Central, The Australian Wildlife Experience, Wiggles World, Big Brother, FlowRider and some of the tallest, fastest thrill rides in the world and while described as the ultimate place for family fun the same applies for Gen Y’ers.

[Pictured right the Mick Doohan Motocoaster, which was really cool]

We just love fun places like this as we are really just grown up kids, but also as long as for most of us, the rides are not tame and give us a really a good scary, thrilling ride!

Parking the car, we met our guide Kelly Cullinan, Dreamworld’s PR and Communications Executive and she was awesome, making sure we got on all the right rides early and in time so that we could give them a really great try.

What is interesting is that we each liked different rides with Borgie aka William Borglund, preferring without question the Flowrider, which he loved and was even selected to do a demo or something later in the afternoon.

Nat hates the thrill rides and her favourite was the Nickelodeon and for me it had to be the Claw and also for Borgie and me the Mick Doohan ride which was awesome!

Kelly said that Dreamworld tried to appeal to practically everyone and for those who wanted the most spine-tingling, knee-knocking scream machines in the country? The Claw, Tower of Terror, Giant Drop, Cyclone, and the Wipeout are some of the tallest and fastest rides in the world… and they are not joking, when they say that these rides will get your heart pumping………….they most certainly do!

Borgie and I loved the Mick Doohan’s Motocoaster and also the Tower of Terror and the Rollercoaster, Brave Cyclone, The Claw [left] and all the other rides in Ocean Parade and yes we got very wet indeed on the Rocky Hollow Log Ride and The Thunder River Rapids.

There is so much to do at Dreamworld we should have allocated more time, but we were exhausted, so it was time to say goodbye to Kelly and off back to the Vibe!

So what now?  I know said Nat, let’s go and just sit in the spa and she was right, with us emerging looking like prunes after way too long in the water, but it was wonderful!

We were getting hungry and after the fantastic Thai food last night, what did we want tonight to eat tonight?

It had to be a burger and fries fix at Hard Rock and although the food was good, the service was very rushed, with us only arriving at 9:30, and in and out in 25 mins, feeling a little like we had been loaded into a process and been spat out the other end!

Not to worry, exhausted and with bed calling and the Dreamworld rides fresh in our minds after a really great day, that fantastic Vibe bed is calling, so no more fun today as we hit the hay……zzzzzzzzzzzzz, thinking there is so much to do on the Gold Coast, we had better stay another week!!

More tomorrow from Wet’n’Wild!

An on location report by the Gen Y Moles from the Gold Coast.
