One last push for summer 2013

Thursday, 13 Aug, 2013 0

The majority of travel agents are seeing more late deals this year, according to the latest TravelMole poll.

When asked: "Are there better last-minute deals around this summer than last?" 80% of respondents answered "yes", compared to 20% who disagreed.

On Holiday Group chief executive Steve Endacott said current market prices are comparable to last year.

He said: "Low-cost carriers’ lead prices are around £20-£30 cheaper, hence the real reason Ryanair has put its peak-season luggage charge up by £20, no doubt.

"There are also lots of charter seats available to Greece and Turkey in September.

"These combined seem to have got the market back to around par year-on-year for most online travel agents we service."

The discounts are not just confined to the Eastern Med. For example, the Algarve Promotion Bureau is highlighting discounts of up to 20% throughout the region for the remainder of August and throughout September.

Travel Counsellors chairman David Speakman, meanwhile, said discounts are not across the board. He believes many holidaymakers booked earlier this year, so the majority of last-minute deals are in the mass-market sector.
