Online growth of future shifts to Europe
The pace of online travel bookings in the US has slowed but the big growth market of the future will be Europe, says a study.
Online bookings are expected to double in Europe, going from 9% in 2004 to 20% by this year, says PhoCusWright.
In the US, nearly nine out of 10 consumers used the Web in the summer of 2005 to plan trips or purchase travel, according to some studies.
PhoCusWright says online travel companies are expanding and consolidating in the European market.
The research company also says US bookings for US online travel agencies grew 19% in 2005, but that was down from 21% the previous year.
