ONYX unveils expansion plans
Bangkok-based hotel group ONYX Hospitality Group is expanding its brands with 30 projects in the pipeline in the next five years.
Its midscale brand OZO, which currently has four properties, will add a second hotel in Phuket in May, a short walk from the Kata beachfront on the western coast of the island.
Next year it will open an OZO in Pattaya, adjacent to the Amari Pattaya.
In 2020 it will also add a second hotel in the Maldives and a hotel in Penang, its first Ozo in Malaysia. A 450-room Amari Penang will also open in the same year.
Meanwhile, ONYX will enter the Australian hospitality market with the opening of the Shama Luxe Melbourne later this year.
The Shama Luxe brand is the group’s top tier serviced apartments promising ‘prestigious addresses and extensive clubhouse facilities’.
The newbuild property will have 252 units and is in a key city centre location.
Debrah Pascoe, executive vice president of ONYX Hospitality Group, said the group is on track towards its strategic aim of having 99 hotels open across the Asia Pacific region by 2024.
The bulk of the other development projects are in China, she said.
She said across the group’s portfolio the UK is the third largest international market.
"Even though Onyx has been established for many years, we’re constantly reinventing ourselves with major transformations and new hotels," she said.
"We have a very long-established relationship with UK partners, especially with our Amari brand."
She said Onyx would continue to maintain close partners with the UK travel trade with its London office, annual roadshow, commercial agreements and fam trips.
