Opposition says Government should be wary on travel advisories
The Federal Opposition has warned the Government against “crying wolf” with its overseas travel advisories, with the travel advisory for Indonesia reissued this week due to the threat of an imminent terrorist attack.
However, the alert level was not officially upgraded, and Labor’s foreign affairs spokesman Robert McClelland says it raises serious questions.
“I think the Government has to be very careful – from a broader consciousness in the community – has to be very careful about not crying wolf too much,” he said.
“I think Indonesia is entitled to say ‘listen, we’re entitled to a more balanced presentation than what has occurred.”
