Over 100 bomb threats to India flights
India’s commercial airline industry and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security have met to discuss the spate of hoax bomb threats which have upended air travel in the past week.
Over 100 bomb threats have targeted Indian flights, mostly international services across several airlines.
It has affected Air India, IndiGo, Spice Jet and Air Asia and others.
On Sunday, there were 25 hoax threats alone.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has also been in talks with other ministries and security and law enforcement agencies.
Officials have been at pains to assure passengers Indian skies are safe for travel.
Disruptions due to the hoax threats have been extensive with flights cancelled or delayed many hours.
“These hoax bomb threats are being taken very seriously by the aviation regulator. They are focused on finding strong solutions,” the ministry said.
The talks with airlines focused on what can be done to reduce delays without compromising safety.
“The current security protocols are robust, and we are working diligently to put an end to these hoax calls.”
