Over 4.5 million UK passengers faced disruption in Q1

More than 4.6 million passengers experienced air travel disruptions in the first quarter of this year.

Data from travel tech company AirHelp collated the numbers from 149,000 registered flights departing from the UK.

Overall, 21 million people planned a trip during this period.

It represents disruptions suffered by 21% of travellers.

Whilst most faced delays under three hours, and not eligible for financial compensation, over 480,000 people had the right to claim.

What’s more, over 410,000 travellers had their trips cancelled altogether.

The flight disruption rate was highest at London Gatwick and Manchester Airports at 25%, affecting a total of 1.2 million passengers between January and March.

The most punctual airports during this period were Liverpool John Lennon Airport and London City Airport, at 13% and 15% of passengers disrupted respectively.

The most disrupted route from UK airports with more than 20,000 passengers, was Manchester to Dubai with over 58% of flights disrupted during the period.

London Heathrow route to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya had a disruption rate of 56%.

Best performing was the Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur long haul route, with over 97% of the flights departing on time.
