Over 55s head to party capitals of the world
Assume that a client over 55 is looking for a beach break, a cultural trip or a traditional family holiday and you could see a cash-rich customer walk out of the door.
New research shows that more than a third of over 55s are looking for holidays to destinations more often associated with the Club 18-30 brigade – Ibiza, Lanzarote and Rio de Janeiro are all on their wish-list this year.
Over 55s travel insurance specialist Gnu Insurance said its survey of 2,000 people who had travelled in the past 12 months revealed that more mature holidaymakers were still looking for adventure.
Only 36% said they wanted to travel to spend time with their families, compared with 38% of 18-24 year olds, and a third of over 55s said they were going away "to do something adventurous".
Fifteen per cent admitted to a holiday romance, 14% said they had been stopped by police and one in 10 said they’d danced on a tabletop. Which makes it all the more worrying that, according to Gnu, 3.5m Brits over 55 don’t take out travel insurance.
