Oz tourism push aims to bowl over Brits
Cricketers Shane Warne and Phil Tufnell are to feature in a tourism aiming to encourage British tourists to visit Australia for the Ashes clash and beyond.
The campaign kicks off with a video message, filmed by Shane Warne in Melbourne, taunting Phil Tufnell about the Ashes series which starts in Bisbane next week.
This is followed by a reply from Tufnell saying: ‘Don’t worry about where I am Shane, ask yourself how the bloody hell you’re going to get the Ashes back?’
The viral campaign enables Australians to email the footage to their friends in the UK.
There will also be a dediacted website www.tuffersinoz.com, where people can follow Tufnell’s travels in Australia for the Ashes series.
Australia’s tourism minister Fran Bailey said: “The Ashes will bowl in a sporting and tourism bonanza for Australia.
“More than 40,000 English tourists will be descending upon Australia for the long-awaited series. These tourists will spend up big in our hotels, restaurants and pubs.
“Over the next few weeks, Australians will be able to enjoy one of the greatest sporting contests – the Ashes. And with Warnie bowling like a legend, the Ashes are ripe to be brought back down under. The only thing left is to ask the English team, So Where the Bloody Hell Are the Ashes?”
