OzJet announces details of new Perth service
OzJet, the new airline that is set to upgrade travel to and from Perth, announces that tickets are on sale from today for its new West Australian service.
OzJet intends to begin the WA service on Tuesday, March 14, using its all-business-class Boeing 737 aircraft.
The service will be seven days a week, rather than the six originally envisaged.
OzJet’s fares between Perth and Melbourne start at $499 one-way for a luxurious, large leather seat and service that includes free hot meals on fine china and complementary beverages.
Other fares will be available at $599, $699 and – with full flexibility – at $799.
Fares between Sydney and Perth start from $699, with a stop in Melbourne before direct services begin later this year.
The Sydney-Perth fares will range up to $999 for a fully-flexible ticket.
OzJet will begin its east-west service with an 8pm departure every day from Melbourne, arriving in Perth at 9.15pm during daylight saving in the eastern states and 10.15pm after that (from April 2).
Departures from Perth will initially be at 10.40pm and then at 11.40pm when daylight saving ends in the eastern states.
“We are looking forward to adding a new dimension to travel between Perth and the east coast of Australia,” OzJet chief executive Hans van Pelt said.
“OzJet will offer new levels of comfort and service that we believe will have a lot of appeal to people travelling this long-haul route.
“We are liaising closely with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority regarding the regulatory authority necessary for operating this service.
“It requires a slight variation to our Air Operator Certificate and we are confident of having that in place in time for us to start WA services on March 14.”
OzJet now has four Boeing 737 aircraft in Australia with a fifth due to arrive in March.
“A key priority for the fifth aircraft will be the addition of a second daily service between Perth and Melbourne that will depart Perth either at the start or the end of a business day,” Mr Van Pelt said.
“We will monitor very closely what the market wants and liaise with travel agents in ensuring that the second service is flown at a time when people want it most.”
OzJet has been operating between Sydney and Melbourne since late November 2005 with its growing fleet of Boeing 737 jets, each with just 60 seats.
Every OzJet seat has a minimum 102cm pitch and is 47cm wide between the armrests, providing significant extra legroom and more lateral space, giving travellers lots of room to work in privacy, read a broadsheet newspaper or, on a west-east flight, simply to sleep.
