Pacific Dawn’s celebration in light and sound!
Sydney is getting set for tomorrow night’s spectacular light and sound show at Circular Quay to celebrate the naming of P&O Cruises’ Pacific Dawn.
The general public is being urged to take public transport to see the 8.30pm show that will be projected onto the ship’s hull across an area measuring 200 metres wide by 25 metres high.
The show, commencing at 8.30pm and best viewed from East Circular Quay promenade or the Sydney Opera House precinct, will be the largest projection on a ship ever undertaken in Australia and it will be set to music especially composed for the event.
But many members of the travel industry will be in prime position as just before the show, 600 VIPs and celebrities will see Olympic gold medal winner Cathy Freeman christen the 70,000-ton Pacific Dawn in a traditional champagne-bottle breaking ceremony.
The Mole will be on board Pacific Dawn and a full report will appear in TravelMole on Friday.
The “son et lumière” has been coordinated by David Grant, who has masterminded the hottest parties and hospitality for seven Olympics including next year’s 2008 Games in Beijing.
The show will include Aboriginal artworks, motifs from the South Pacific, nautical imagery and sea creatures dancing across the ship, set to music commissioned especially for the show.
It will be followed by singer Christine Anu, performing on Dawn’s pool deck.
If you’re not lucky enough to be one of the VIPs, the best vantage point is the East Circular Quay promenade and the Sydney Opera House precinct.
