Pacific Travel Tips
The Pacific States all boast beautiful shorelines but that does not mean they are at all alike. These states, while being distinct in their Western location represent some of the more unique areas in America. Some easy travel tips will help you plan for an unforgettable experience on the West Coast.
Zipping through Alaska
Zipline adventures take “flightseeing” to the next level and has gained popularity with travelers of all sizes, shapes and ages. Zipline touring involves being hoisted onto elevated platforms, often above the forest’s canopy, being clipped into safety harness gear and, after a launch pushoff, sailing along a strong cable line
from one aerial platform to the next.
Zipline touring is an exhilarating adventure offering unparalleled overviews of nature. There are three Alaska destinations where travelers can experience zipline touring. Ketchikan has two tour operators with zip lines traveling above the area’s rain forest. Southeast Exposure offers an adventure center at
Knudson Cove Marina with several active sport challenges including a multi-level zip line with several launch platforms and sky bridges.
Alaska Canopy Adventures operates from Herring Cove with a sky run that travels 4,500 feet over seven zip lines that are linked by three hanging
sky bridges. There is also an extensive network of nature trails and boardwalks through the forest. Juneau zip options are with Alaska Canopy Adventure’s facility located on Douglas Island with two lines. The other company
is Alaska Zipline Adventures in the Eaglecrest Ski area. This run starts at a higher level, travels over the Tongass National Forest, and operates rain or shine.
Interpretive displays and narratives are located along the zip route with information about the rainforest ecosystem and conservation efforts. The Tlingit Native Village of Hoonah near Icy Strait Point will be a new featured port for several cruise lines in 2007. Its zipline facility is a 5,360-foot route that is outfitted for individual and groups of four.
