Paris: Spring is in the air!

Friday, 09 May, 2007 0

The tenth anniversary of the Printemps des rues festival will make it more interesting than ever to wander the avenues, boulevards and streets of Paris. During the festival, the capital will host an outdoors programme of shows in a variety of disciplines, featuring over 20 street theatre companies and visual art installations, on the weekend of 27 and 28 May.

The month of May also provides art-lovers with an opportunity to take a closer look at the work of contemporary artists by visiting their studios. The Père-Lachaise and Belleville artists’ associations will be organizing open day events from May 5 to 8 and May 11 to 14 respectively. In Belleville, over 240 artists living or working in this colourful district in north-eastern Paris open up their studios from 3-9pm on these four days.
Over 50 artists working in the Père-Lachaise area participate in this event each year; their studios are located in the streets around the southern wall of the cemetery – Rue des Pyrénées, Boulevard de Charonne, Rue d’Avron and the neighbouring area in the southern part of the 19th arrondissement. These events are a wonderful way to discover the work of contemporary painters, sculptors, engravers, visual artists and potters.
